Grocery Challenge week one

I started out the day excited to see if I was up to the challenge! I honestly didn't think it was possible until I started going through the store circulars. The day started well but I wasn't sure how the trip would go since I had my three littlest ones with me. It was a challenge with the three kids but we survived......

Well week one shopping and meal planning is done. Did I do it? Almost! I spent $78.03, so I was over budget by $18.00 that said all of the meat that I bought was in an Extreme Value pack so I am pretty sure that I have enough meat for two full weeks of meals. I also just started clipping coupons so I didn't have very many to use. I am pretty surprised I was able to accomplish it!!!

Here is my meal plan for the week:

Day one: Garlic Pork Chops with Homemade Mashed potatoes and steamed Broccoli
Day two: Beef Roast with Potatoes and Butternut Squash
Day three: Beef tacos with rice and beans
Day four: Cowboy Pie with Broccoli
Day five: Baked Ziti with homemade sauce and Spaghetti squash
Day six: Slow cooker Chicken fajitas
Day seven: Spaghetti squash and Chicken bake

Breakfast:
Oatmeal, eggs & toast, French toast, Eggs burritos, Pancakes and cereal

Lunch:
Sandwiches (turkey, PB&J, grilled cheese) fruit, baby carrots, mac & cheese a couple of days (this menu is much more relaxed)

Here is the breakdown of what I got for my $$:

  1. good job! this is my NY resolution too. I'm playing the drugstore game, too. I have put a lot of time into it the last couple of weeks, but I don't expect it will be so time consuming in the future. I'm reading lots of blogs and websites and signing up for lots of stuff. I found it helpful to have a dedicated email account for all the daily emails, and manufacturers offers. Also, feeding the google reader w/the many updates from moneysavingmom.com, thefrugalgirls.com, commonsensewithmoney.com and chieffamilyofficer.com. printed tons of coupons online. started my expanding file full of coupon inserts. do you know about grocerysmarts.com? very helpful in planning. also sundaycouponpreview.
well, happy saving! You're on the right track!
